Tomis CONSTANTA completes memorable season with seventh title in Romania's national cup
News from the clubs

Constanta, Romania, April 28, 2013. Tomis CONSTANTA capped an already memorable season – where the side from the Black Sea debuted in the CEV Volleyball Champions League and more recently claimed their fourth title in the national league – by winning also Romania’s national cup. In the final match played on Saturday in Craiova Tomis beat Remat ZALAU in straight sets (25-16, 25-22, and 28-26) to seize the trophy for the seventh time in their history after imposing their supremacy for six consecutive years through 2005-2010. This is also the fourth time – after 2007, 2008 and 2009 – that Tomis sweeps all domestic competitions and combines the national league title with a win in Romania’s cup.
On Friday Tomis had edged Unirea DEJ in the semis (3:0; 25-23, 25-16, and 25-17) while Remat had also scored a straight-set win over Dinamo BUCURESTI (25-19, 25-18, and 25-23). In a final match starring the two teams that had represented Romania in this year’s CEV Volleyball Champions League, Tomis quickly imposed its pace by comfortably bringing home the first set with the score of 25-16. Remat responded by playing quite aggressively in the second set but after a tie at 21 all, Tomis stepped up to go for the provisional 2:0 (25-22). Remat did not give in and moved up 22:19 in set 3 before the Cuban setter and team captain of Tomis, Javier Gonzalez, aced twice for the 22 all. Remat got nevertheless two set balls (22:24) but this time it was Adrian Gontariu to restore the balance for the likes of Tomis. After Remat missed out on another opportunity to call for the fourth set, Tomis could score the next three consecutive rallies to seal the final 28-26 that shaped up their 3:0 win.

“I think that the audience could enjoy some high-class Volleyball tonight, especially in the second and third sets that were really close” Gonzalez said. “I am very happy because this year we won everything we could here in Romania”.

“We are evidently satisfied with our second trophy of the season. Honestly I expected the final game with Remat to be a little more difficult but we played really good and could bring it home in only three sets” the Serbian opposite of Tomis, Milos Terzic, who top scored with 21 points and was voted MVP of the final, adds.

As the domestic season comes to a close, Tomis confirmed their supremacy in Romania with a clean and impeccable record of 20 wins in as many matches since the start of the year 2013.
