BERLIN Recycling Volleys and VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN to clash in Germany’s playoff final
News from the clubs
Berlin, Germany, April 12, 2013. Edging TV Ingersoll BÜHL in the third round of action of the playoff semi-final series of Germany’s Bundesliga, the defending champion BERLIN Recycling Volleys will now take on the national standout VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN in the up-coming final for the German championship. Gearing up for the clash of the titans, both teams have already claimed a first success as they qualified for the 2014 CEV Volleyball Champions League.
In front of 4’062 spectators at Max-Schmeling-Halle (Berlin), the team of head coach Mark Lebedew could live up to expectations and scored the third win in the third round of action (25-20, 25-23, 25-14). The Playoffs 12 participant of this year’s CEV Volleyball Champions League could thus not only settle its third consecutive participation in the national final series but also claimed the qualification for the 2014 edition of Europe’s elite club competition.
After edging Generali UNTERHACHING in the third round of action – the most thrilling match of this semi-final series – in a tiebreaker (25-17, 23-25, 25-27, 25-21, and 15-12), the twelve-time German national champion seems to be back on track in time for the fight for Germany’s national trophy though the guys from the Bodensee weer ranked "only" third at the end of the regular season. The team of head coach Stelian Moculescu could claim the first two matches of the semi-final scoring a 3-1 and 3-0 win earlier in this series.
“For every Volleyball fan this series is probably the dream final. We’re looking forward to the sporting challenge of competing against the dominant team of the last years in Germany”, BERLIN Recycling Volleys club president Kaweh Niroomand says.
The first match of the playoff final, run in a best of five series, will be played on Sunday, April 21 in Berlin. A possible fifth and decisive match will take place on May 8 in Berlin.
