Six in a row also for Noliko MAASEIK!
2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men
Teruel, Spain, December 12, 2012. Belgium’s Noliko MAASEIK joined the very elitist club of the teams capable of sweeping all of their preliminary matches by scoring a sixth win in a row on Wednesday as they played CAI TERUEL of Spain for the last round of action in Pool F (25-15, 25-22, and 25-22).
Noliko dominated the scene right from the start at “Los Planos” sports hall finding regularly a way through the Spanish block and going up 16:11 in the first set, thereby paving the way for the final and comfortable 25-15. However, CAI TERUEL displayed some good play in the second set where the score stayed very tight but it was MAASEIK that went to the front by the second technical time-out (16:13) and was able to maintain this small cushion up to the end (25-22). TERUEL did not wave the white flag that early and played with glowing hearts for its home fans before Noliko could score the deciding points of the third set (25-22).
Nathan Wounembaina paced the Belgian side with 15 points while Juan Carlos Barcala and Manuel Parres registered 10 apiece for TERUEL. Noliko mentor Brecht Van Kerckhove was pleased with his team’s performance while home head coach Oscar Novillo said he felt sorry to bid farewell to the competition but that his side will now focus entirely on the domestic events.
