Jihostroj claims first CL home win in five years!
2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men

Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, October 30, 2012. Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE claimed on Tuesday their first win in the prelims of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League by edging Budvanska Rivijera BUDVA of Montenegro in three straight sets (27-25, 25-18, and 25-22) with some 1’900 fans in attendance to create a great atmosphere for the hosts.
This match somehow wrote history for Jihostroj as this is the first home win – in five years – for the Czechs in Europe’s most elitist competition. The addition to the roster of spiker Peter Platenik has significantly strengthened the group and brought also the right balance and consistency as showed on Tuesday in the second round of action for Pool B. Budvanska, on the other hand, did not live up to the expectations and even the contribution of setter Veljko Petkovic, an Olympic champion back in 2000 with the then Yugoslavia, could not avoid a second defeat in straight sets after the one that this side had suffered last week to Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK of Russia.
“We are very happy to win this match in front of our fans” says middle blocker Radek Mach. “We played well, especially when serving, and this also helped our defense”. “This win keeps the door open for making it to the next round and I have to thank all the players because they really did stick to my recommendations” adds head coach Jan Svoboda.
“We are very sorry for this defeat especially as we missed our chance in the first set” states middle blocker Luka Suljagic for Budvanska Rivijera.
