IOC President Dr. Thomas Bach to attend EuroVolley semi-final match
2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Women
Berlin, Germany, September 13, 2013. Dr. Thomas Bach – who this past Tuesday was elected as IOC President at the 125th session of the International Olympic Committee in Buenos Aires, Argentina – is set to attend today’s semi-final match starring Germany and Belgium at Max-Schmeling-Halle. This is the very first time the IOC President pays a visit to the CEV Volleyball European Championship and this is even more special for Dr. Bach will be enjoying this opportunity in his native country, Germany.
“We just received the official confirmation that Dr. Bach will be our most illustrious guest this afternoon as Germany plays Belgium in the second semi-final game” says CEV Vice President and Jury President of the Women’s EuroVolley 2013, Dr. Jan Hronek. “We are evidently overwhelmed with pride and grateful to Dr. Bach who has decided to visit the Volleyball family only a few days after his election as IOC President. This is a unique opportunity for us to strengthen our ties with the Olympic family as we look forward to Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020” he adds.
Dr. Bach will get to see Volleyball at its very best and also feel the right ambiance for the Max-Schmeling-Halle is sold-out for the final weekend of the Women’s EuroVolley 2013. “This is the very best pre-condition for the IOC President to see what Volleyball is all about and what CEV and the organizers of this Championship have been able to achieve for the good of the sport with their hard work and close cooperation” continues Dr. Hronek. “We look forward to welcoming the IOC President into Europe’s Volleyball family”.
