Slovakia’s Chemes HUMENNE celebrates third place in VELUX Ace Contest
2013 CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship - Men
Bratislava, Slovakia, September 30, 2013. As the VELUX Ace Contest drew to a close this past Sunday shortly before the final match of the 2013 CEV VELUX EuroVolley starring Russia and Italy at Parken stadium in Copenhagen, Slovakia’s Chemes HUMENNE finished in third place thereby receiving 15% out of the final pot standing at 5,370 € (15 € were donated by title sponsor VELUX for each ace registered at the 2013 EuroVolley).
The Volleyball club Chemes HUMENNE was founded on June 12, 1996 and with a series of good results its name got known well beyond the eastern section of Slovakia. Chemes HUMENNE has won the national league three times, is a two-time winner of the Slovak national cup and has been representing Slovakia also internationally, playing in the European Cups as well as in the Middle European League. The best result to date on the international stage is the qualification for the final four of the Middle European League while Chemes made it once to the round of 16 in the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup.
Such results have been achieved mainly because Chemes has been working with young players thereby helping their development and nurturing Slovakia’s Volleyball talents. These young guys do eventually start playing also for the senior team competing in Slovakia’s highest division and the club has been feeding also Slovakia’s youth national team for the past few years. This means that the club has been able to rely on the good work delivered by its coaches as well as by its general management.
The job done by Chemes HUMENNE is highly commended by the Slovak Volleyball Federation that has been supporting the club also financially within the frame of a program for talented young players. The club has been cooperating also with the local high school where qualified coaches are working intensively by scouting and nurturing promising Volleyball players.
The third place claimed by Chemes HUMENNE in the contest sponsored by VELUX was achieved also because its supporters have been casting many votes through the past ten days. The fan club of Chemes HUMENNE is one of the largest in Slovakia and the supporters are traveling regularly to attend also the away matches played by their heroes. The check for Chemes was presented on Sunday to the President of the Slovak Volleyball Federation, Mr. Lubor Halanda, by the Chief Marketing Officer of the VELUX Group, Michael K. Rasmussen (see picture).
“We are very pleased with what our fans have done and the way they have responded by voting for us in this special contest” says Jan Grosiar, a member of the Management Board of VK Chemes HUMENNE. “Our fans have followed the final match of the 2013 CEV VELUX EuroVolley on a big screen and they were evidently happy as it was announced that our club had finished the contest in third place. They have promised that they will follow us even more closely than they did in the past years. We would like to thank CEV and VELUX for having implemented this contest, we all enjoyed it very much”.
