Asseco Resovia completes memorable day for Poland's Volleyball family
2012 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Ljubljana, Slovenia, March 17, 2012. It was certainly a day to remember for Poland’s Volleyball family as with PGE Skra BELCHATOW and Politechnika WARSZAWSKA making it to the finals of the CEV Volleyball Champions League and CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup, additional glory was contributed by Asseco Resovia RZESZOW that scored a second 3:0 win – after the previous from this past Wednesday – to edge ACH Volley LJUBLJANA in the semis of the CEV Volleyball Cup (25-18, 25-19, 25-22). Resovia was then joined by Tytan AZS CZESTOCHOWA that did also advance to the final, but of the Challenge Cup, after beating Prefaxis MENEN of Belgium.
Asseco Resovia immediately got control of the operations (8:5) but ACH Volley fought back to level at 10 via the blocks of Dejan Vincic. After a time-out, Resovia got back on track and scored three in a row, forcing Igor Kolakovic, the mentor of Slovenia’s champions, to ask for a break. The guests always displayed a very good rhythm and they eventually pocketed the opening set with the score of 25-18.
ACH Volley started the second set pretty well (4:3) but Resovia changed gear right after the first technical time-out to move up 15:12; the hosts were able to fight back to 18:17, but three great blocks paved the way for the provisional 2:0 in favor of RZESZOW (25-19).
The young opposite of ACH Volley, Klemen Cebulj, contributed some great services to move the score up to 14:9 for his side in the third set but the guests scored 8 in a row on a serving turn of Wojciech Grzyb to turn the tables around. They did never look back and they finally could book their ticket to the final match versus the winner of the clash starring Dinamo MOSCOW and Italy’s Acqua Paradiso MONZA.
György Grozer top scored for Asseco with 18 points while Cebulj contributed 12 for the home side.
“We are evidently happy with this win but we are already focused on the next match of the Plus Liga” said Resovia head coach Andrzej Kowal. “I wish ACH Volley the best of luck for the rest of the season”.
“It was a nervous game and we felt the pressure resulting from our desire to deliver a good show here in Ljubljana. However, we could not control our nerves and we let our opponents take full control of the game. I congratulate Resovia on their win and qualification for the final” stated the home mentor Igor Kolakovic.
