ALMERIA fights bravely but ISTANBUL claims ticket for next round
2012 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men

Almeria, Spain, October 28, 2011. Unicaja ALMERIA was downed yesterday night by Turkey’s ISTANBUL BBSK 1:3 (25-21, 19-25, 16-25, 26-28) in the return match of the 16th final in the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup and is therefore relegated to the 2012 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup. Unicaja ALMERIA did not display its best play in defense while the guests from Turkey stood out with their powerful spikes and fully deserved a ticket for the next round where they will be crossing their ways with Germany’s BERLIN Recycling Volleys.
The home guys had actually started pretty well by seizing the opening set 25-21 but ISTANBUL BBSK played with great consistency to dominate the scene in set 2 and 3 (19-25 and 16-25). Unicaja ALMERIA fought with glowing hearts in the fourth set but after a very close final rush the Turks could celebrate their second win in seven days.
“We played a pretty good match but we could not control their attacks” stated Spanish coach Marcelo Méndez. “We will be moved to the Challenge Cup, so our dreams of European glory are still alive” he concluded.
