A Bright Night for Savino Del Bene Scandicci and a hard fought win for Shakhtior Soligorsk
CEV Champions League Volley 2021

Luxembourg, October 7, 2020. The Italians from Savino Del Bene Scandicci went into their return match today against Khimik Yuzhny knowing they are only sets away from the highly coveted qualification into the 4th Round of the CEV Champions League Volley, and that was enough motivation to see them through yet another straight sets win. On the other hand, the experienced men's Belgian team of VC Greenyard Maaseik has made its seasonal debut in Pool E of the 1st Round, its 20th of the CEV Champions League Volley!

All matches from the CEV Champions League Volley Men and Women are streamed live on CEV's EuroVolley.TV!

Khimik Yuzhny vs Savino Del Bene Scandicci 0-3 (16-19, 19-25, 11-25)

After managing a three set win in their first encounter played only 24 hours before, Savino Del Bene Scandicci managed a similar dominating performance that gets them the win, and with it qualification into the 4th Round of the CEV Champions League Volley.

  • Magdalena Stysiak was the top scorer of the game, with the opposite scoring 18 points, 3 aces and registering 50% in reception.
  • The third set won is the best set of these preliminaries for Savino Del Bene, the biggest points gap in its favour.

Massimo Barbolini, head coach Savino Del Bene Scandicci: “We played a good game, we had 5 minutes in which we dropped a little and this shouldn't have happened even if the game is going well. We must be satisfied because, in my opinion, nothing is taken for granted this season. Having won two games with two easy 3-0 must make us happy. Now we focus on the championship because a rather complicated trip awaits us.”

Ofelia Malinov, team captain Savino Del Bene Scandicci: “We are really happy because it was not obvious to qualify. Getting to the group stage was our goal. We took confidence set after set and game after game. We can't wait to start the group stage and start the "real" Champions League.”

CLVM Pool E: VC Greenyard Maaseik vs Shakhtior Soligorsk 2-3 (25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 24-26, 14-16)

Despite a good performance in the opening day of the Pool E tournament taking place in Amriswil, Switzerland, narrowingly missing out on a win meant that for Shakhtior Soligorsk a win today was a must. On the other hand, the much more experienced team of VC Greenyard Maaseik, at its 20th straight participation in the CEV Champions League Volley and with a solid reputation to defend, could now rely on Pieter Verhees in his first season back in Belgium and a prolonged absence from the CEV  Champions League Volley.

  • A marathon for both teams and a second 5 set match in a row for Shakhtior who pushed themselves to the limit and got a suprising but hard-fought win.
  • Andrei Radziuk was selected at the Best Player of the match,  finishing with 24 points.
  • All is yet to be decided on the team that will qualify to the next round, as Lindaren Volley Amriswil and VC Greenyard Maseeik go head to head in the last match of the Pool E tomorrow, 8 October.
