New season of the CEV Champions League Volley kicks off today!
CEV Champions League Volley 2021

Luxembourg, September 22, 2020. After a tough six months since the interruption of last season's CEV Champions League Volley, and a complicated couple of weeks of preparation, Europe's premiere club volleyball competition returns today with matches from the 1st Round of both the women and men's competitions.

Both matches from today as well as all matches from the CEV Champions League Volley will be streamed live on EuroVolley.TV !

The first match of the day sees Savino del Bene Scandicci take on Tent Obrenovac 217 days since they last played in the competition due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Despite having to play without Malinov, Merlo, Pietrini and Samadan due to injuries, the Italians know how important this double tie is for them, “We are really happy to be able to participate to CEV Champions League for another year, as it is the most important competition. These preliminary matches are not to be underestimated. We want to reach the Champions League groups at all costs and then play to access to the quarters. We want to push hard in these two games, raise our level more and more and earn this place in the pool stage,” said Ofelia Malinov.

The second match of the day comes from the men's competition and sees Stroitel Minsk from Belarus taking on Jastrzebski Wegiel from Poland in the opening match of the Pool C tournament taking place in Poland. „In its original form, qualifying would not be easy. Playing twelve games to get into the group stage would be a lot. However, due to the pandemic, the number of matches has been reduced, and this is working to our advantage. Returning to the Champions League itself is a privilege, but at the same time it is associated with additional matches and additional stress. If we take part in it, we want to mark our presence in it and dominate it. Our attitude will therefore be such as to show that Polish volleyball is at the highest level when entering the court,” said Luke Reynolds, Head Coach of Jastrzębski Węgiel.
