Halkbank through to #CEVChallengeCupM semis after second home win in a row
CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2021 - Men
Ankara, Turkey, December 16, 2020. On Wednesday afternoon, Halkbank ANKARA joined Allianz Powervolley MILANO and VK Lvi PRAHA in the semis of the men’s CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2021 by securing a 3-1 home victory (25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19) in their quarterfinal match with AS CANNES VB of France. In the next stage of the competition, due to take place in 2021, Halkbank will be playing MILANO for a spot in the finals.
The three visiting teams involved in this ‘bubble’ – next to AS CANNES VB, Sport LISBOA e Benfica and SOLLENTUNA VC – all deserved positive reviews and words of appraisal for the organisers, emphasising the very strict hygiene measures in place to protect the health and safety of everyone involved.
Australian Lincoln Williams, now wearing the jersey of AS CANNES VB, played a second game in as many days at Baskent Volleyball Hall – where he used to compete a lot last year with Turkish team SK ANKARA. Williams top scored with 23 points, two more than those scored by Halkbank star player Fernando Hernandez Ramos.
“It is an important success for us to win against two strong teams such as Benfica and AS CANNES and to qualify for the semis. We know the importance and prestige of the uniform that we wear. Keeping this in mind, we fought hard and eventually reached the semis,” said the captain and middle blocker of Halkbank, Faik Samed Günes (pictured, #10). “We showed our power after spending 10 days in quarantine. We hope to have more wins ahead of us in the semi-finals of the CEV Challenge Cup as well as in the Turkish national league. I congratulate all of my teammates on this achievement.”
