Helios Grizzlys highly motivated for historic European home match
CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2021

Hildesheim, Germany, November 9, 2020. Only five days ago, the Helios Grizzlys GIESEN played their very first match in international competition. On Tuesday, the team of head coach Itamar Stein will play their first home match in Hildesheim against a top international club. Due to the current coronavirus restrictions, this historic match will take place without any audience in the Volksbank-Arena. However, the Germans will offer their fans and Volleyball enthusiasts the opportunity to follow a 5-camera live stream from their home living room for free, with commentary and interactive chat on the Twitch online platform. Thanks to the successful crowdfunding campaign and the support of the Grizzlys sponsor network, all this is possible.

Sporting CP LISBOA won the first leg in Lisbon 3-0 just under a week ago. Now, at home, the Helios Grizzlys want to show their very best performance against an internationally experienced team and send the Portuguese back home with a defeat. Their outside hitter, Anton Menner is optimistic: “I believe that if we continue our Lisbon game and do the little things better, we will certainly be able to achieve a lot!”

The match against Sporting starts at 7 pm in the Volksbank-Arena Hildesheim. Carunion, a long-standing partner of the German club, will present this European home-match day. If the hosts win 3-0 or 3-1 at home, a golden set will determine the winner. This is a great sporting challenge and opportunity for the Grizzlys!

The Portuguese have arrived in Hildesheim on Monday afternoon. The first training session will take place in the Volksbank-Arena in the evening. Tuesday will show how fit the guests will be, because unlike the Helios Grizzlys, they had an official match in their national league this past weekend. They clearly won the game 3-0. However, this additional match shortened their time to regenerate and prepare for the return match against the highly motivated Germans.

Helios Grizzlys head coach Itamar Stein is optimistic about this historic match: “After the first leg we now had some time to draw our conclusions from the lost sets and make tactical adjustments. We want to continue to play at the good level of the last two sets in Lisbon. Although Sporting is a very good team, we believe in our own strengths and we will try to come out of the dressing room with confidence, power and concentration. We want to give our all and take our chances!” The entire team will probably be available to Stein on Tuesday. In the meantime, opposite Jacob Kern has also returned to team training. Thus, the Grizzlys coach now also has the possibility to make substitutions for the opposite position in an ideal way.
