CEV allocates more than € 800,000 prize money for CEV Cup and Challenge Cup

Luxembourg, January 11, 2021. A total prize money of more than € 800,000 is at stake for the teams reaching the quarterfinals, semi-final and final stages of the CEV Volleyball Cup and CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2021. The CEV Board of Administration approved this financial allocation in yet another effort made to support the clubs competing in the 2021 edition of the European Cups – with the delivery of all matches subject to compliance with strict hygiene measures to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. With a record-breaking prize money of more than € 4.8 million available in the elite CEV Champions League, the overall pot for the 2021 edition of the European Cups stands at an unprecedented € 5.6 million.
With full gender equality in place as with the CEV Champions League Volley, the eventual winners of the CEV Volleyball Cup 2021 will receive € 80,000 – with the runners-up and the losers of the semis cashing € 60,000 and 30,000, respectively. The four teams reaching the quarterfinals but failing to progress any further in the competition are due to receive € 15,000. These figures account for a total pot of € 260,000 in each gender.
Moving to the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup, those clinching the title will receive € 50,000. The silver medallists and third-place finishers will take home € 30,000 and 15,000, respectively, with the losers of the quarterfinals securing € 10,000 apiece, for an overall € 150,000 at stake for men as well as for women.
With this allocation, the CEV continues to invest massively in the sport and especially in supporting its key stakeholders – members of the Volleyball family that have had to deal with the many constraints caused by the global health crisis since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020.
In late 2020, in an effort to reduce travel and the exposure to the risk of infection from the virus, the CEV decided to hold the 8th Final and quarterfinal stage of the CEV Cup and CEV Challenge Cup in a ‘bubble format’. Moreover, the CEV has been providing all organisers with quick COVID-19 tests in order to raise to an even higher level the standards set for the protection of the health and well-being of all involved.
The semi-final line-up is already complete in the men’s CEV Cup and women’s Challenge Cup. Another three ‘bubbles’ will be taking place later this month in Monza and Istanbul as well as in Ankara to define the remaining semi-finalists in the women’s CEV Cup and men’s Challenge Cup, respectively.
