Luxembourg, April 10, 2021. Romania will be one of the four host countries for this year’s EuroVolley
Women event, alongside Serbia, Croatia and Bulgaria later this summer and two
of the biggest names from the Romanian national team have been chosen to be
part of the Ambassadors Programme.
The Ambassadors Programme brings
together two fantastic players from each of the four host countries per gender.
In the coming months leading up to the start of the events, the eight
Ambassadors will be actively engaging with fans across all CEV platforms and
beyond, taking everyone along on the EuroVolley 2021 journey via exclusive
content especially designed to give fans a sneak peek into their own experiences.
Over the next days we will
continue to gradually announce the Ambassadors from each host country, and
after launching the Programme with Finland’s two Ambassadors, time has
come to reveal the Ambassadors from Romania: Adelina Ungureanu and Nneka
Onyejekwe.
Adelina Ungureanu: “It is an
honour for me to be among the players chosen to promote EuroVolley 2021.
Competing in such an important event in my country is a great feeling and a
unique chance. I am happy to be part of this journey and I am sure that
EuroVolley 2021 will be an amazing experience for all.”
At the age of 14 Adelina left her
hometown club to go and play for Agroland Timisoara. Three years later, she
moved to Dinamo Bucharest and had her debut in the Romanian first league. After
one season she joined CSM Bucharest, winning the silver medal in the Romanian
Championship and having her first experience in the CEV Champions League. In
2019 she signed her first contract in Italy with Cuneo Granda Volley and has
played for the Women National Team since 2018, and prior to that the Youth NT
since she was 12 years old.

Nneka Onyejekwe: "Getting to
organise a group of European Championship in my hometown is bringing me so much
joy. I just hope that things will get closer to normality with Covid and that
the public will be allowed again in the gyms.”
Onyejekwe was introduced to
volleyball at the age of 12 in Cluj Napoca and moved to Galati 2 years later.
At the age of 16 she began her professional career, in Metal Galati, under the
guidance of Zoran Terzic.
At the age of 18 she started
attending the senior National Team of Romania. Three years later she competed
at her first European Championship and this will be her 4th.
