News from the CEV

Luxembourg, January 29, 2020. The process to determine the 12 teams competing at the 2020 edition of CEV #EuroVolleyU17W and #EuroVolleyU18M will continue in late April / early May with the second-round qualifiers. The hosts of the Finals – Italy and Greece for U18 Men and Montenegro for U17 Women – have already secured their spot in the event together with the winners of the 1st Round zonal qualifiers held in late 2019 / early 2020.

As for the second round of qualifications, the organisers are heading their respective pools from A to E as per their position in the latest European Ranking of these age groups. The remaining teams have found their place in one of the five pools as per the European Ranking as well – and following the serpentine system.

The composition of the Women’s U17 qualifiers reads as follows:

Pool A:
Romania (org.), Bulgaria, Poland, Denmark
Pool B: The Netherlands (org.), Turkey, Ukraine, Sweden
Pool C: Czech Republic (org.), Slovenia, Greece, Latvia
Pool D: Croatia (org.), Germany, Hungary, France
Pool E: Estonia (org.), Belarus, Spain, Belgium.

The eventual winners of each qualifier plus the runner-up with the best result across all pools will qualify for the final stage of the competition due to take place in Montenegro. Serbia, Russia, Slovakia, Finland and Italy have all qualified through their respective zonal events already.

The composition of the Men’s U18 second-round qualifiers is a follows:

Pool A: Russia (org.), Hungary, Portugal, Lithuania
Pool B: Bulgaria (org.), Romania, Ukraine, Norway
Pool C: Germany (org.), Belarus, The Netherlands, Israel
Pool D: Serbia (org.), Slovakia, Spain, Sweden

The top finishers in each pool will reach the last stage of the competition due to take place in Italy and Greece later this summer. They will join the hosts there as well as the winners of the zonal qualifying events – i.e. Turkey, Poland, Czech Republic, Finland and France.
