Luxembourg, November 13, 2019. Wednesday delivered two extremely interesting and tight battles in the second round of the CEV Champions League Volley 2020 – Men. Both encounters went to a Golden Set, which determined who would stay in contention for the highly coveted spots in the group stage. First, Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD in front of a home crowd won the game against C.S. Municipal Arcada GALATI and booked a spot in Round 3. Later, SK Zadruga AICH/DOB were just a step away from achieving the same feat, but after triumphing in the re-match 3-1, they suffered a setback in the Golden Set, which went the way of their rivals - Mladost ZAGREB.
SK Zadruga AICH/DOB and Mladost ZAGREB know each other very well from the MEVZA League and it's probably one of the reasons why this crucial #CLVolleyM game turned out to be such a tight clash. With support from their home crowd, Zadruga AICH/DOB managed to earn a 3-1 win, but in the Golden Set the local team made too many own errors and it was Mladost ZAGREB that emerged victorious in the end.
- Home star Peter Mlynarcik finished the match with a personal tally of 31 points to become the top scorer for the hosts. Marino Marelic scored 24 points for the champions of Croatia.
- The game held at Sportpark in Klagenfurt lasted 123 minutes.
- Mladost ZAGREB out-blocked AICH/DOB 14-4.
- Head coach of Mladost ZAGREB, Radovan Malević said: “This match was marked by ups and downs but in the end we could easily win the Golden Set and we are now looking forward to the 3rd Round of the CEV Champions League.”
