Facts you should know about 2019 European League
2019 CEV Volleyball European League - Men & Women
Luxembourg, December 12, 2018. Volleyball fans can look forward to an exciting 2019 edition of the CEV Volleyball European League that will feature 12 men’s and 12 women’s elite teams in the Golden League and another eight in the Silver League. Waiting for the pool composition to follow on Thursday after the meeting due to take place at the ‘home of European Volleyball’ in Luxembourg, there are quite a few interesting facts for you to know, including a total purse of 1.2 million € at stake across the four leagues!
2019 CEV Volleyball Golden European League
Teams: 12 per gender divided into three pools of four teams each
Six legs of pool play:
o May 25-26
o May 29
o June 1-2
o June 8-9
o June 12
o June 15
Final Four: June 21-22 for women and June 22-23 for men
Prize money: € 413,000 per gender with € 125,000 going to the eventual winners, € 80,000 and 60,000 for the silver and bronze medallists
The top two teams will qualify for the 2019 FIVB Challenger Cup where a spot to compete in the 2020 edition of the Volleyball Nations League will be at stake.
Sweden were the winners of the 2018 women’s Silver European League on home soil in Nyköping.
2019 CEV Volleyball Silver European League
Teams: 8 teams per gender divided into two pools
Six legs of pool play:
o May 25-26
o May 29
o June 1-2
o June 8-9
o June 12
o June 15
Final Four: June 28-29 for women and June 29-30 for men
Prize money: € 156,000 per gender with € 50,000 going to the eventual winners, € 30,000 and 20,000 for the silver and bronze medallists
The eventual winners will qualify for the 2020 edition of the Golden European League.
Back in 2018, Estonia (pictured above) and Bulgaria won the men’s and women’s Golden European League – and Bulgaria eventually took the top spot from the Challenger Cup as well to move to the elite Volleyball Nations League in 2019. As for the Silver European League, 2018 winners Croatia (men) and Sweden (women) will now contest the elite Golden European League and pursue further success while competing against some of the top teams in Europe.
