Saugella MONZA poised to fight for spot in #CEVChallengeCupW final
2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women
Monza, Italy, March 5, 2019. After claiming a dramatic 3-2 away victory last week, Saugella MONZA will be hosting Volero LE CANNET on Wednesday for the second round of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women semis. There is a lot at stake – a slot in the final against Turkey’s AYDIN BBSK or Slovenia’s GEN-I Volley NOVA GORICA.
A home victory with any result will be enough for Saugella MONZA to remain in contention for the crown. However, Volero LE CANNET will be a hard nut to crack. MONZA stood out last week with their blocking game (15 stuffs) and with Hanna Orthmann and Serena Ortolani contributing with 19 and 20 points, respectively. On the other side of the net, Ana Bjelica and Angelina Lazarenko top scored for Volero – but could not prevent a home loss for LE CANNET.
Rachael Adams, middle blocker of Saugella MONZA: “It was a really important team win for us, and especially going into the Challenge Cup against such a great team was perfect. We have three Italian league matches left in the season and one very important Challenge Cup fixture coming up. They are a very good team, but we are going to play a much organised block-defence against them, playing one ball at a time and not focus on the number of sets we need to win.”
