Rookies MONZA easily through to #CEVChallengeCupW 8th Finals
2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women

Monza, Italy, December 4, 2018. Saugella MONZA celebrated their home debut in the European Cups and did so in style as they routed Prinz Brunnenbau Volleys PERG of Austria 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18) to secure a spot in the 8th Finals of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women. Their next opponent will be Belgium’s VDK Bank GENT or LiigaPloki PIHTIPUDAS of Finland.

The teams started the match at a relatively low pace but the hosts were able to identify and use to their advantage the opponent’s weaknesses – especially their blocking game. Saugella MONZA’s head coach Miguel Angel Falasca opted for Hanna Orthmann (pictured, #12) instead of Edina Begic, thus confirming the same starting six that claimed a 3-0 victory last week in Austria. Orthmann finished the match as the eventual top scorer with 19 points and five aces, as Marika Bianchini and Francesca Devetag recorded 13 and 11, the latter one including four blocks. The only player of PERG to finish the match in double digits was Diana Mitrengova (10 points and two aces), but the visitors never posed a real threat to MONZA.

Apart from Saugella, another two teams booked their ticket to the next round on Tuesday night – Greece’s AO THIRAS and Bulgaria’s Beroe STARA ZAGORA, who emerged victorious from their clashes with KP BRNO (CZE) and Aris THESSALONIKI (GRE), respectively.
