Hermes OOSTENDE thrash Azerrail to secure spot in #CEVChallengeCupW 8th Finals
2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women

Oostende, Belgium, December 1, 2018. On Thursday night, Hermes OOSTENDE of Belgium sealed their spot in the 8th Finals of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women after recording back-to-back 3-0 wins in their matches with Azerrail BAKU.

After the score remained tight up to 3-3, Hermes OOSTENDE broke away to 12-4 and at this stage, the head coach of Azerrail, Famil Aghayev, had already asked for his second timeout. The break did not stop the positive run of Hermes as the Belgians stormed to 22-11 and the opening set ended after 18 minutes only on a winning spike by Jitse Verbinnen and a net violation by Nurhan Kazimova. Verbinnen and Lise De Valkeneer scored six points apiece for Hermes in the opening set.

Hermes OOSTENDE scored eight points in a row in the early stages of the second set and Nina Coolman – who scored seven times in this period – extended the Belgian lead from 17-10 to 23-10. After failing to capitalise on four set balls, Hermes OOSTENDE made it 25-16 and with it, they secured their spot in the next round of the competition.

Azerrail put up a fight in the third set where they claimed a 7-4 lead but Hermes responded swiftly to edge ahead at 13-12. After Azerrail kept the score tight up to 14-16, Hermes changed gear and at 25-18, the Belgians sealed another 3-0 victory – just like the night before – after 58 minutes of play only.

De Valkeneer and Verbinnen top scored for Hermes with 18 and 12 points, respectively followed by Coolman with nine. Nelli Salbishvili registered eight points for Azerrail.
