Galatasaray edge Yenisei to claim spot in #CEVCupW quarterfinals
2019 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Istanbul, Turkey, January 22, 2019. After losing 2-3 in Russia the first match back in December, Galatasaray ISTANBUL claimed on Tuesday a 3-1 home victory over Yenisei KRASNOYARSK to secure their spot in the quarterfinals of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women.
With the hosts leading 17-14, Yenisei asked for a timeout in the opening set but this did not change much the course of the match, as Galatasaray showed much resilience and consistency to claim a 25-18 set win. The hosts controlled the match in the second set as well (6-2, 11-4) but as the advantage quickly vanished, home mentor Ataman Güneyligil asked for a break. Yenisei completed their comeback, however, to take the set 26-24.
Galatasaray trailed 1-5 early in the third set before they closed the gap with Hande Baladin and Cursty Jackson. They edged ahead at 14-10 and finished the set 25-15 with a series of good blocks by Charlotte Leys. Galatasaray set the pace from start to end of the fourth set, sealing a 3-1 victory (25-15) and with it a spot in the quarterfinals where they will be playing Romania’s CSM Volei Alba BLAJ.
