VakifBank determined to bounce back from Moscow setback
2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women

Luxembourg, March 20, 2019. There is a big showdown coming up on Wednesday night in Istanbul where title-holders VakifBank play Dinamo MOSCOW for a spot in the semis of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women. Last week, Dinamo ended a 36-game winning streak for the Turkish heavyweight in the competition as they stormed to a 3-2 victory in Moscow. There is a lot at stake and much to look forward to as VakifBank sound determined to bounce back and continue their run in the competition – in an effort to claim an all-time record fifth title. •    VakifBank want to qualify to the semi-finals of the CEV Champions League for the seventh year in a row.
•    The hosts have secured as many as five 3-0 wins in their seven CEV Champions League matches this season.
•    VakifBank are the best blocking team of the competition with an average of 3.5 stuffs per set.
•    VakifBank have won 36 of their last 38 matches in the CEV Champions League. Before last week’s setback in Moscow, their last loss came in the final match of the 2016 edition with Italy’s Pomi CASALMAGGIORE.

Of course, we will meet a team with strong and tall blockers. We have been preparing very well for this match. Dinamo MOSCOW is a very good team and we have to work hard to beat them. As a team, we want to do our best and qualify for the semi-finals.”

Melis Gürkaynak, team captain of VakifBank: “We knew that the match we were due to play in Russia would not be easy. I think we have learned the necessary lessons as a team. We want to qualify by revealing our team spirit on our home court. We have the power to qualify. We will play one of the most important games of the season.
