Eczacibasi and Fenerbahce two sets away from #CLVolleyW semis
2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women

Luxembourg, March 18, 2019. Two exciting matches will be taking place on Tuesday late afternoon and evening at Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall in Istanbul to define the first two semi-finalists of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women. Eczacibasi VitrA and Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL re-start their quest for a spot among the top four of the competition knowing that they need to take ‘only’ two sets from their re-matches with Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO and Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI. However, with the stakes so high, fans can look forward to a great Volleyball night, with all of the action available on EuroVolleyTV, the new digital home of European Volleyball!

Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL (TUR) vs. Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI (ITA)

•    After their 3-1 away victory last week in Florence, Fenerbahce need to win two sets to secure their spot in the semis.
•    Fenerbahce have a record of six wins and one loss only in this year’s Champions League. They lost 2-3 at home to Dinamo MOSCOW in the fifth round of the pool stage.
•    SCANDICCI are making their maiden appearance in the Champions League and overall in the European Cups. They finished first in Pool D with a record of four wins and two losses.

The Yellow Angels of Fenerbahce are two sets away from a spot in the #CLVolleyW semis

Seniye Merve Dalbeler, player of Fenerbahce: “We played the first match away from home and we have an advantage from the 3-1 win we claimed last week in Italy. All of our fans are waiting for this game; we want to continue our journey in this competition and take advantage of the home court and the support of our fans.”

Fatma Yildirim, player of Fenerbahce: “We are in the quarterfinals of the Champions League and this means that every match is difficult. Away matches are more difficult but we managed to win in Italy. Our fans did not leave us alone and we enjoyed their support there as well. We will play just the same way at home but we need their support even more.”

Carlo Parisi, head coach of Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI: “All odds are against us. However, this match is important if we want to find back our game after a series of losses. The victory this weekend in the derby with Il Bisonte FIRENZE shows that we are growing but we still have to improve.”

Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL (TUR) vs. Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO (ITA)

•    Last week, Eczacibasi claimed a 3-0 victory in Italy.
•    This is the first time Imoco Volley play Eczacibasi in Istanbul.
•    Eczacibasi were the only team to secure a 3-0 victory in the first round of the quarterfinals last week.
•    Eczacibasi are yet to suffer a setback in the competition after they swept six wins in a row in Pool B.
•    Imoco Volley need a 3-0 or 3-1 victory to force a Golden Set.

Büşra Kılıçlı, team captain of Eczacibasi: “We knew that the away game would be a difficult one. A 3-0 win in our pockets is a great advantage for the second game. In the first game, we played well from the beginning until the end and were able to force them make mistakes. The second game, however, is as crucial as the first one. Although two sets would be enough for us to qualify for the semi-finals, we are fully focussed to work hard and win this match.”

Kimberly Hill, player of Imoco Volley: “It will be a very difficult match, of course, especially now playing in Turkey but we did not play our best Volleyball in the first game, so I think the second game will be very different. I have confidence in our team.”
