Sliedrecht, Netherlands, October 16, 2018. The reigning Dutch national champions of SLIEDRECHT Sport are keen to meet their Austrian opponents UVC Holding GRAZ on court once again after a win in three sets last week in the only match-up scheduled for Round 1 of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women.
SLIEDRECHT Sport (NED) vs. UVC Holding GRAZ (AUT)
• This will be the Match of the Week available on LAOLA1.tv with a live English commentary starting at 19:30 CET on October 17, 2018.
• Outside-spiker Esther van Berkel will play her 22nd European match tomorrow for SLIEDRECHT Sport. This means she will rank 5th in European caps in the team, with Mariska Koster topping the list with 32 appearances in the colours of SLIEDRECHT Sport in matches of the European Cups.
• The match on October 17 will be the 52nd match in the European Cups for SLIEDRECHT Sport. The first European match was played on October 6, 2001, when SLIEDRECHT played against Hit NOVA GORICA of Slovenia in the Qualification Round of the 2002 Top Teams Cup.
• The match will be the 5th Champions League game for SLIEDRECHT Sport. Last year the Dutch champions beat Asterix Avo BEVEREN of Belgium and lost to eventual bronze medal winners Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO of Italy.
• UVC Holding GRAZ are the 3rd Austrian opponent that SLIEDRECHT Sport are facing on the European stage. In 2003, the Dutch team beat TI-Volley INNSBRUCK and in 2010 they edged Sparkasse HARTBERG.
“We are looking forward to the match this Wednesday in our hometown and especially to achieving a second win against UVC Holding GRAZ. Our focus this month is completely on the Champions League as we are very keen to play the next round against Allianz MTV STUTTGART,” said Vera Koenen, coach of SLIEDRECHT Sport.
“We are absolutely ready to take on UVC Holding GRAZ! Can’t wait till it’s Wednesday,” Brechtje Kraaijvanger, opposite of SLIEDRECHT Sport, added.
