Belogorie join elite group of clubs with full set of European titles
2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men
Luxembourg, March 29, 2019. On Wednesday night, Belogorie BELGOROD joined a truly elite group of clubs boasting a full set of titles from European competitions. The Russian ‘Lions’ achieved this feat after securing the crown of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men through their comprehensive home victory over Italian rookies Vero Volley MONZA. Belogorie are three-time winners of the CEV Champions League (2003, 2004 and 2014) and two-time gold medallists of the CEV Cup (2009, 2018) as well.
This elite group includes as many as five Italian teams and one from France. While recalling and listing their achievements, these are:
- Santal / Maxicono PARMA (CEV Champions Cup in 1984 and 1985, CEV Cup in 1992, Cup Winners Cup in 1988, 1989 and 1990, Supercup in 1989 and 1990)
- Pallavolo MODENA (Champions Cup in 1990, 1996, 1997 and 1998, Cup Winners Cup in 1980, 1986 and 1995, CEV Cup in 1983, 1984, 1985 and 2004, Challenge Cup in 2008 and Supercup in 1995)
- Sisley TREVISO (Champions Cup in 1995, 1999 and 2000 / Champions League in 2006, CEV Cup in 1991, 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2011, Cup Winners Cup in 1994, Supercup in 1994 and 1999)
- Porto Robur Costa RAVENNA (Champions Cup in 1992, 1993 and 1994, Supercup in 1992 and 1993, CEV Cup in 1997 and Challenge Cup in 2018)
- Lube Banca Marche MACERATA / now CIVITANOVA (CEV Champions League in 2002, CEV Cup in 2001, 2005 and 2006, CEV Challenge Cup in 2011)
- PARIS Volley (CEV Champions League in 2001, Cup Winners Cup in 2000, Supercup in 2000, CEV Cup in 2014)
Obviously, the format / denomination of the European Cups has changed throughout the years, but these seven clubs – including Belogorie as the latest addition – have completed a truly remarkable sweep of the titles available while they were competing on the international stage.
