Rookies Vero Volley MONZA aim high in #CEVChallengeCupM semis
2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men
Monza, Italy, February 26, 2019. Vero Volley MONZA are ready to play in the semis of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men where they host Portugal’s reigning national champions SC Portugal LISBOA. MONZA will take on an ambitious opponent whose roster includes experienced players who previously competed in the Italian national league – such as Angel Dennis and Leonel Marshall.
Vero Volley MONZA have reached the semis after sweeping aside PÄRNU VK, Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD and Calcit Volley KAMNIK. Donovan Dzavoronok has scored 70 points for MONZA in the competition this far, while Theo Lopes of SC Portugal LISBOA is the top scorer of the Challenge Cup overall with as many as 103 points. Oleh Plotnytskyi and Viktor Yosifov are the best server and best blocker for MONZA with 5 aces and 14 stuffs, respectively. Marc-Anthony Honore has registered as many as 22 blocks for LISBOA in the competition this far.
Tomasz Calligaro, setter of Vero Volley MONZA: “We are ready to regroup after the loss in the game with PERUGIA where, at least at times, we were able to show a good performance. Now there is the first leg of the Challenge Cup semis and we have been preparing for this match with much care. We want to achieve a positive result and to have a little comfort ahead of the rematch in Portugal. SC Portugal LISBOA is a strong team, especially physically, with excellent individual players. They play differently than we do and this is why we will have to read their game well and respond with the right measures. This is our first participation in the European Cups as a club and the first for many of us as well. We want to make it all the way to the finals.”
