TRENTINO banish demons to claim #CEVCupM crown
2019 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men

Istanbul, Turkey, March 26, 2019. On Tuesday night, TRENTINO Itas completed their collection of international accolades by adding the only missing piece – i.e. the CEV Cup title, following their 3-2 away victory in the final re-match with Galatasaray ISTANBUL. The three-time CEV Champions League winners and five-time club world champions were able to stand the comeback of their Turkish opponent to claim a crown they had failed to seize in 2015 and 2017, this time avoiding the risks of a Golden Set – where they had previously succumbed to Dinamo MOSCOW and TOURS VB.

•    Galatasaray had a mountain to climb after their 0-3 loss last week in Italy. They started strong (8-3) and were able to hold on to their early lead (17-13) to secure a 25-22 win, much to the delight of 4,500 fans in attendance at Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall.
•    The second set was a very close affair with TRENTINO leading 13-10 before the hosts clawed back to turn the tables around at 16-12. They eventually stormed to a 25-21 win and as a result, they were only one set away from making it to the Golden Set.
•    TRENTINO may have thought they were about to experience the same fate as two years ago in Tours. However, they regrouped and secured a 25-16 win in the third set to get back on track.
•    Many mistakes made by Galatasaray paved the way towards a 6-2 lead for TRENTINO in the fourth set. The Turkish head coach Nedim Özbey used another time-out at 3-10 but the Italians were just superb in their defence game. Galatasaray ended up losing this set at 16-25 as well and it was time for TRENTINO to celebrate since by making it 2-2 in the match, they had seized the title.
•    The tiebreak did not have much importance, but TRENTINO did not lose focus and with a comprehensive 15-5 win, they sealed a 3-2 victory to finish the 2019 CEV Cup unbeaten.
•    Serbian superstar Uros Kovacevic top scored for TRENTINO with 24 points as Oliver Venno paced Galatasaray with 17.
