2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men & Women

Budapest, Hungary, November 2, 2018. As many as 20 teams per gender will contest the pool phase of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League and they all found out their destiny earlier this evening following the Drawing of Lots held at the Hilton Hotel in Budapest. The pool phase (4th Round) will commence on November 20 and continue up until late February to determine the eight teams progressing to the quarterfinals and that will continue their quest for Europe’s most coveted Volleyball crown. The 2019 edition of Europe’s elite club competition will be reaching its climax with the ‘grand finale’ for women and men scheduled for May 18-19, 2019 at a venue TBC. The gold medal winners from the 2018 edition, Russia’s Zenit KAZAN and Turkey’s VakifBank ISTANBUL are vying for an all-time record seventh and fifth continental crown, respectively.

The Drawing of Lots carried out by two-time #CLVolleyW winner and French Volleyball legend Victoria Ravva placed the 20 teams participating (click here for further info on the procedure) in the men’s pool phase across five pools as follows:

The respective five pool winners and the three runners-up with the best result will qualify for the quarterfinals. With the 2019 edition, there are no Playoffs 12 and 6 anymore, but quarter-final matches (played in home and away matches) whose winners will progress to the semis (played in home and away matches as well).

Zenit SAINT PETERSBURG of Russia and VK ČEZ KARLOVARSKO of Czech Republic are making their historic debut in the CEV Volleyball Champions League. The 3rd Round matches due to take place on November 7 and 13 will determine the names of the two remaining teams that are still to qualify for the pool phase.

As for the women’s competition, four-time Olympic medallist, 2012 Olympic champion and four-time #CLVolleyM winner, Russian Volleyball legend Sergey Tetyukhin helped draw the 20 participating teams across the five pools as follows:

After completion of the pool phase in late February, the competition will continue with the same format as for the men – i.e. with quarterfinals, semis (all played in home and away matches) and the ‘grand finale’ that will be crowning the eventual champions.

Italy’s Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI, Poland’s LKS Commercecon LODZ and Romania’s C.S.M. BUCURESTI are the newcomers celebrating their first ever participation in the CEV Volleyball Champions League. As with the men, the 3rd Round matches due to take place on November 7 and 13 will determine the names of the two remaining teams that are still to qualify for the pool phase.
