#CLVolleyM resumes with two exciting fixtures
2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men
Luxembourg, October 23, 2018. The 2019 edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men resumes on Tuesday night with two eagerly anticipated fixtures. Rookies United Volleys FRANKFURT of Germany host Austrian champions Posojilnica AICH/DOB while CV TERUEL hope to celebrate further success on home soil when taking on France’s CHAUMONT VB 52 HM. Live streaming of all matches is available at LAOLA1.tv; for live updates, follow the CEV’s social media accounts and check the official hashtag #CLVolleyM.
United Volleys FRANKFURT (GER) vs. Posojilnica AICH/DOB (AUT)
• In their first season in the CEV Volleyball Champions League, United Volleys FRANKFURT already have the chance to make it to Round 3 and play for the qualification to the main phase.
• Unfortunately, two of the young squad’s top players will again not be able to compete with their team: experienced setter Patrick Steuerwald and national team shooting star Tobias Krick are both injured.
• Still, last weekend’s 3-0 win in the Bundesliga should help the team gain even more confidence for the face-off with Austrian champions and long-time European Cup contestants Posojilnica AICH/DOB.
• Attackers Milija Mrdak and Moritz Karlitzek showed another great performance, giving new setter Adam Kocian lots of options.
• Middle blocker Lucas Van Berkel from Canada who joined the club just weeks ago after the World Championships has proven to be a big reinforcement for the team, scoring 13 points (including seven blocks) in just three sets.
Stelio DeRocco, coach of United Volleys FRANKFURT: “We are facing another strong opponent. This time, we really have to play our best Volleyball and not lose focus during the match. Only an excellent performance and result will help us put pressure on the other team for the rematch next week.”

CV TERUEL celebrate their Golden Set victory over Lindemans AALST in the opening round of the 2019 #CLVolleyM
CV TERUEL (ESP) vs. CHAUMONT VB 52 HM (FRA)
• CV TERUEL needed a Golden Set to edge past Belgium’s Lindemans AALST in the previous round of the competition. The Spaniards had stormed to a 3-0 victory at home before the Belgians responded in emphatic style on home ground to secure a 3-0 win of their own.
• Andres J. Villena played a pivotal role in securing a 15-7 win for CV TERUEL in the all-important Golden Set. Villena is the eighth best scorer in the competition at this stage on 38 points.
• CHAUMONT VB 52 HM, on the other hand, did not drop a set in their two matches with Viking TIF BERGEN of Norway. They will be hoping to add another victory to their positive streak.
• Their American middle blocker Taylor Averill just won bronze at the Men’s World Championship with Team USA.
• Martin Atanasov, who plays for CHAUMONT, is the son of Petar, who played for CV TERUEL in the 2007-2008 and 2008/2009 seasons.
Andres J. Villena, player of CV TERUEL: “I am very happy with my performance but at the end of the day, what really matters is that I helped the team make it through to the next round.”
Pedro Rangel, setter of CV TERUEL: “CHAUMONT VB 52 HM is a very strong team and they will come to Spain with the intention to win. However, we will be doing everything we can to achieve a victory. The team has been doing very well, everyone is making the utmost effort also in training and the ambiance in the group is good.”
Miguel Rivera, head coach of CV TERUEL: “This is going to be a tough match since we play the runners-up from the last edition of the French national league. They have many players with international experience and some recently played at the World Championship as well, so the atmosphere at Los Planos sports hall will be a very important factor for us to claim a victory.”
Michael Saeta, player of CHAUMONT VB 52 HM: “Making it to the next round after the loss in the national league was very important for us; it is a very good thing psychologically for the team.”
Jorge Fernández, who plays for CHAUMONT and is the captain of the Spanish national team: “CV TERUEL is a team that I know quite well as it is practically the same as last season. They play very well and they finished last season at an extremely high level. We are at the beginning of the season and not yet at 100%. CV TERUEL will try to put pressure on us with their serves and we have to do just the same. I think the team with the better serve will win the match.”
