Sweden seek to seize opportunity at Silver #EuroLeagueW Finals in Nyköping
2018 CEV Volleyball Silver European League - Women
Nyköping, Sweden, June 15, 2018. After previously hosting Beach Volleyball events in Nyköping, Sweden turn to host the Final Four of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Silver European League - Women. The hosting team finished second in Pool A, just one victory and one point behind Estonia, who topped the pool with five wins and 14 points. Their rivals, the top two teams from Pool B were going head to head during the League Round, with Austria finishing first (five victories and 16 points) and Albania lining up behind with five victories and 14 points. The Final Four in Sweden is the last to be played of all European League Final Rounds. On Saturday, Albania will open the programme playing with the hosting team Sweden, followed by the semifinal between Austria and Estonia.
Albania vs. Sweden
- These teams have the top two players in the Best Scorer Ranking, with Albania’s Erblira Bici taking second position after scoring 115 points and Swedish Isabelle Haak leading the way with 160 points.
- Albania have lost only one game throughout the previous phase, continuing with four victories in a row afterwards. Having a big community of Albanians living in Sweden, Albania may be able to count on their own fans to attend the competition and support them both on Saturday and Sunday.
- The hosting team recorded a solid performance during the League Round, with their only losses coming after playing five sets. Sweden have played in the Arenor Rosvalla venue twice during the League Round, which can turn into their advantage in their first match during the Final Four.
"It is exciting and inspiring to get the opportunity to play the Final Four on home soil. The possibility to achieve great results in front of our home crowd, in our own 'house', are good. We have a really good chance to play in the final on Sunday, and we are aiming on grabbing that gold medal. That is what we, both players and coaches, agreed on when we reassembled earlier this week and started our preparations for this weekend. To win this tournament would of course mean a great deal to us and the team's self-confidence. Furthermore, it would ultimately mean that we get the chance to play in next year's edition of the Golden European League against even better teams, which is very important if we want to develop the quality of our game," says Guillermo Gallardo, coach of Team Sweden.
Austria vs. Estonia
- Austria dominated Pool B, losing only one match - to Albania in five sets. With the help of two best scorers in the team in the League Round - Katharina Hozler and Monika Chrtianska, Austria will seek to edge Estonia and reach the final.
- Estonia can prove a difficult rival to Austria though as they played most evenly in the League Round, suffering only one loss in the tie break, to Sweden. Estonia have the advantage of knowing the venue, as their second meeting with Sweden happened in Arenor Rosvalla and ended with a victory for Estonia.
- Estonia led the rankings of Best Blockers with Kertu Laak scoring 18 points in block in five played games and Setters with Kaisa Bahmatsev achieving 73.33% efficiency in four played games. Austria showed stable reception, with Srna Markovic and Sophie Wallner finishing second and third in the ranking with 38.14% and 35.16% of perfect receptions respectively. Nikolina Maros was second best server of the League Round with 16 aces.
