Galatasaray pull out second straight victory in ‘pool of death’
2018 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women
Luxembourg, January 23, 2018. Galatasaray SK ISTANBUL improved their win-loss record in Pool D of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women to 2-1 after storming to a comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-21, 25-17) in their home matchup with Grot Budowlani LODZ of Poland.
• Galatasaray SK ISTANBUL set the tempo of the game from start to end of the first set (8-5, 16-9), with Dobriana Rabadzhieva contributing as many as six points, as the hosts recorded three blocks.
• The second set followed almost the same plot with the home side leading 21-14 when they suffered a drop of focus and concentration. LODZ scored four times in a row with the help of Julia Twardowska but after a time-out asked by their coach Ataman Güneyligil at 21-18, Galatasaray regrouped and ultimately won the set 25-21. Neslihan Demir Güler scored five times for the hosts.
• The visitors caught a good start to the third set but Galatasaray came back with Neslihan standing behind the service line to secure a 3-0 victory.
• These two teams will play each other again on February 6 at Atlas Arena in Lodz.
• Dobriana Rabadzhieva top scored with 15 points followed by teammates Neslihan Demir Güler and Tatiana Kosheleva with 10 apiece.
• Kaja Grobelna was the most prolific player for LODZ with 11 points to her name.
Gizem Karadayi, libero of Galatasaray SK ISTANBUL: “I congratulate my teammates. We have won two matches in a row in the pool and I feel like we just play better and better. Now we will work even harder and we cannot wait to play the other teams in the pool. I hope we can do even better than we did tonight and win every match we contest.”
