CEV announce new dates for #EuroBeachVolleyU20
2020 #EuroBeachVolleyU20

Luxembourg, June 5, 2020. The CEV and the Czech Volleyball Federation have agreed to re-schedule the 2020 edition of #EuroBeachVolleyU20, with the competition now due to run from September 9-13 in the city of Brno. These dates will allow more time for teams to train and prepare for the event, as restrictions are slowly easing down across Europe, as well as for the organisers to secure the successful delivery of the competition. The tournament was originally due to run from August 12-16 in the Czech second-largest city.

The city of Brno and the venue at Sokolske Koupaliste Sports Centre have already hosted an impressive number of such tournaments, including the 2003, 2007, 2012, 2016 and 2018 editions of the U18 continental championship. Moreover, the 2004 U23 European Championship took place in Brno as well.

Therefore, many former and current Beach Volleyball stars, such as Laura Ludwig, Marleen van Iersel, Pablo Herrera, Janis Smedins, Sara Goller, Erika and Emilia Nyström, have taken the first steps of their international careers in the Czech city. This is where in early September Europe’s next generation of Beach Volleyball stars will show their skills and shine, thus sending out a strong message of resilience and hope after the coronavirus crisis.

“I am very honoured to invite on behalf of the Czech Volleyball Federation all the participants, players, coaches and staff to the City of Brno,” says Marek Pakosta, President of the Czech Volleyball Federation. “The youth categories are important for development of future Beach Volleyball stars and of our sport itself.  We are proud that CEV once again have shown their trust in us as the organisers of such an important event.”

“Regarding the overall situation worldwide, we are extremely happy that we as organisers are able to fulfil all the conditions and we can prepare for a safe delivery of the 2020 edition of #EuroBeachVolleyU20. We believe it will serve as a positive signal that competitive sport is getting back on track!” he concluded.

As part of the so-called ‘Marshall Plan’ for European Volleyball announced back in April, the CEV will be providing additional financial support to the organisers of the tournament as well as to the travelling teams, in an effort to boost the resumption of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball activities after the coronavirus crisis and foster participation in such competitions.

Update on #EuroBeachVolleyU22

The Dutch Volleyball Federation have informed the CEV that, due to restrictions in place to avoid large gatherings as much as possible in order to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, they are not able to host this year’s #EuroBeachVolleyU22 due to take place from September 2 to 6 in the city of Vlissingen. Further updates on the eventual re-scheduling and re-allocation of the event shall follow in due course.
