Brand new, state-of-the-art facility in Madrid to host Continental Cup event

As for the event in Spain, this will be taking place at a newly established facility run by the Regional Federation of Madrid, in collaboration with the regional government that lends the ground and supports its management. It aims to become the development centre and major hub for Beach Volleyball in the region of Madrid that, despite the impressive results achieved by local athletes (such as Elsa Baquerizo, Maria Belén Carro or 1996 Olympian Miguel Prieto) on the national and international stage, had so far been lacking such a venue suitable for the organisation of (international) competitions.

The beach centre of Madrid features as many as four courts, with the possibility to set up five for training or youth competitions. It lies inside one of the largest sports area of the city - Parque Deportivo Puerta de Hierro that belongs to the regional government. Situated in a natural reserve right in the outskirts of Madrid, the sports centre includes the largest swimming pool in Madrid, facilities for golf, archery, rugby, canoeing, and many other sports along with Beach Volleyball. The official opening of the centre came earlier this summer with the organisation of the U21 Spanish national championship and in the coming months, the work will continue focussing on the provision of shadowed areas, tribunes, lighting and gardening to deliver a fully-fledged venue by March 2020.

Antalya to host one additional major event

The city of Antalya will be playing host to the third double-gender event at the same Beach Volleyball facility where earlier this summer the U22 European Championships took place. Antalya is not only a popular seaside resort and holiday destination, but a regular feature on the Beach Volleyball map as well, with a FIVB World Tour 3-Star event held by the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in 2018. The Continental Cup will provide a further boost to the development of Beach Volleyball in Turkey, where the sport has grown tremendously over the last few years.
