Malbork Castle to provide iconic stage for 1-Star World Tour event
2019 FIVB World Tour 1-Star - Malbork

Malbork, Poland, July 31, 2019. A 650-year-old castle will host for the next four days a World Tour 1-Star men’s tournament. The city of Malbork in the north east of Poland will have for the first time in history the opportunity to witness the actions of some elite players as they fight for World Tour medals and valuable ranking points.

As many as 50 million bricks were necessary to build such a monumental castle back in the 14th century. Now 500 tons of sand arrived to fill up the Beach Volleyball court. It will be an amazing opportunity for tourists to combine sightseeing in the castle with some great rallies on the court. The number of daily visitors to Malbork Castle stands at 7,000 people.

“We hope that tourists coming to visit the castle will notice our event and we will be able to redirect the traffic to the stadium. We have been working really hard all year to deliver the best event we can,” says Tournament Director, Bartek Sobstyl.

Teams from more than 20 countries together with home sides from Poland have signed up for the tournament – which runs at the same time as the 1-Star event in Ljubljana and the Major Series in Vienna – in an effort to collect points counting towards qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Let us see who is going to take home the much-wanted gold from Malbork!
