Beach Volleyball returns to Umag with #CEVContinentalCup event
2018-2020 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup
Umag, Croatia, June 21, 2019. The city of Umag will be playing host this weekend to a first-round tournament of the 2018-2020 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup – Pool G – at a venue, Stella Maris, which has hosted a number of international competitions before. These include the FIVB Youth and Junior World Championships in 2011 and 2013, respectively, as well as another Continental Cup event back in 2014 and the Croatia Open in 2018.
The Croatian Volleyball Federation have worked closely with the city of Umag and the Tourist Board of Umag to deliver an international Beach Volleyball event again – much to the delight of the local residents as well as of the many tourists vacationing in the area.
The event represents the first step for a number of players on the road that takes to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Competitions Director Dejan Kljajić said: “We are especially pleased to host this tournament where it has all started for us, here in Umag 25 years ago. Since our first Beach Volleyball tournament in 1994, the city of Umag has become the biggest promoter of Beach Volleyball in Croatia, so it is our pleasure to organise a second Continental Cup tournament here in Umag, a city with a wealth of experience in delivering Beach Volleyball competitions.”
Teams from Albania, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania and Romania will feature in the event – with the top two per gender progressing to the next round due to take place in May 2020.
