Elite Beach Volleyball returns to Baden for another big party
News from the National Federations

Baden, Austria, May 16, 2019. International Beach Volleyball competitions will soon return to Baden for the 15th straight year, with the FIVB World Tour BADEN OPEN set to run from June 6 to 10, where home stars Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst will aim to defend their title successfully. Katharina Schützenhöfer and Lena Plesiutschnig want to stand on top of the podium before the home crowd. For thousands of fans this means Beach Volleyball up close - two weekends filled with action, fun and party. Baden will indeed host from June 13 to16 the 2019 edition of the CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championship sponsored by SPORT.LAND.NÖ.

“Baden is special for us as nowhere else we are as close to our fans as here,” says Clemens Doppler. The 39-year-old Upper Austrian won gold together with his partner Alexander Horst last year - for the second time in a row at Baden. “We have celebrated huge successes in Baden; in 2018 we won our first World Tour gold medal here,” reminisces the current vice world champion. The 37-year-old Horst is the most successful athlete at the Baden event. Not only has he been participating since the first tournament held in 2005, he also won two gold and five silver medals with his various partners. “At Baden the family is cheering you on and that definitely pushes you,” says the two-time father Horst. “Baden is a great tournament and we really want do defend our title,” the coach of the pair Robert ‘Nowo’ Nowotny has clearly set out the goal. Nowotny won with Nik Berger, now Sports Director at the Austrian Volleyball Federation, the gold medal at the Baden event in 2007.

“We are happy that Baden is once again on the FIVB World Tour calendar,” says Katharina Schützenhöfer excitedly. The Styrian truly enjoys Baden as she explains in unison with her partner Lena Plesiutschnig. The two 25-year-old Styrians playing for the Baden Beach Volleyball Club (BBV), won silver at their “home tournament” last year only defeated by Teresa Mersmann/Cinja Tillmann from Germany in the final. “The atmosphere at Baden’s centre court is unique on the World Tour. The fans are really close and you can feel their support throughout the entire match,” says Plesiutschnig.

The success story continues
The success story started at Baden back in 2005 with the A-Cup. Since last year, the event is part of the World Tour. “Beach Volleyball Baden has been an exceptional event for the past 15 years, an incredible experience for thousands of fans. You cannot get any closer to the Beach Volleyball stars than at Baden. Beach Volleyball Baden offers not only a dream backdrop with the ambiance of Baden's Strandbad, but also triumphs, tears of joy, bitter defeats, great rallies and the Danube Waltz wave. Beach Volleyball Baden is Beach Volleyball up close. An event that inspires, delivering captivating matches combining world-class sport with a summer and party feeling,” says Dominik Gschiegl, organiser of the Vision05 agency.

Unbelievable atmosphere at the Centercourt Baden

The long weekend at the BADEN OPEN 2019 guarantees a full house. The women’s finals will take place on Whit-Sunday (9.6.) while the men will compete for gold, silver and bronze the following day on Whit-Monday. The following weekend the CEV U18 European Championship will also award its winners. Around 30,000 fans can look forward to the usual professionally organised tournaments and an incredible atmosphere in the stadium. The KRONEHIT Beach Dancers presented by Tanzschule Mackh will ensure that the fans do not cool off during the breaks.
