Continental Cup sparks Beach Volleyball fever in London
2018-2020 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup
London, England, May 9, 2019. The ‘Beach’ is getting bigger. Anticipation of the CEV Continental Cup, a Beach Volleyball tournament where a two-pair national team takes on three other European countries with Olympic qualification a possible outcome, is building interest in Leyton, London. The new Feel Good Too sports ground is part of the attraction. It will be there that England’s men will challenge Switzerland, Armenia and Bulgaria and the country’s women will take on France, Belarus and Northern Ireland on May 25-26, 2019.
So many youngsters have expressed an interest in trying out the sport that Leyton sports specialists, Side Out, have decided to run junior sessions on Sundays from 10 to 11 a.m. starting on Sunday, June 2. The coaches will be Alex Cheveau and Gabi Kontopoulos-Medrika.
The London Volleyball Association's Junior Volleyball Officer, Elsa Meserlian said, “I will be running the fun zone to recruit children for the sessions during the Continental Cup event.” That will get the junior Beach Volleyball season properly kicked off in London.
Delighted with the news, Gabi Kontopoulos-Medrika said, “We would like to promote this initiative at the Continental Cup tournament and run some taster sessions or a mini camp in the half term week of June 27-30.”
For those who want to watch the international matches, play starts on Saturday at 10.00 am and on Sunday at 9.00 am. Entry is free but access to the stands is limited to 2,000 so, to avoid disappointment from the "first come, first served" entrance system, access can be assured by getting a ticket in advance from Volleyball England.
