Slovenia announce teams for Beach Volleyball Continental Cup on home sand
2018-2010 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup

Portorož, Slovenia, April 29, 2019. The best Slovenian Beach Volleyball teams have convened in Portorož, where a first-round event for the 2018-2020 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup will be taking place in less than two weeks. These teams came together last weekend to contest a national qualification to determine the entries for the upcoming international event.

Two-time Slovenian champions Tjaša Kotnik and Tjaša Jančar proved once more that they are currently Slovenia’s number one Beach Volleyball pair. They are at the same time the only Slovenian team with a gold medal from an FIVB World Tour event on their resume, as they reached the top position of the podium at the 1-Star Satellite event held in Siofok, Hungary last summer.

Jelena Pešić and Ana Skarlovnik (pictured above) are on the other hand the most experienced Slovenian Beach Volleyball tandem, although they have not contested that many international competitions this far. Still, they managed to claim the bronze medal at the 1-Star event held in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana last August.

In the men's competition, the National team coach Jasmin Čuturić will count on Nejc Zemljak and Jan Pokeršnik, and Vid Jakopin/Jure Peter Bedrač. Whilst Nejc and Jan are familiar faces on the international Beach Volleyball scene, Vid and Jure Peter presented themselves in the best possible way by showing some solid performances at the FIVB 1-Star indoor event in Ljubljana last December where they finished the competition in fifth place.

Nejc Zemljak and Jan Pokeršnik will carry the Slovenian hopes of home success in Portorož.

Slovenia will host Pool E in Portorož on 11-12 May, when men’s teams will face opposition from the Czech Republic, Israel and Northern Ireland, while the women’s home favourites will try to proceed to the second round of the competition against opponents from Latvia and Bulgaria.
