Plenty of surprises on third competition day in Siófok
2018 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellites - Siofok

Siófok, Hungary, August 25, 2018. Teams from Slovenia and Sweden will contest on Sunday the women’s gold medal match of the FIVB World Tour 1 Star/Satellite Siófok, while the men will resume their campaign with the semis.

The top-seeded French duo Romain Di Giantommaso/Jérémy Silvestre progressed to the semi-finals where they will be playing Eric Stadie/Robin Sowa from Germany. Serbia’s Djordje Klasnic and Marko Plavsic edged no. 2 seeds Mateusz Paszkowski/Mateusz Lysikowski of Poland 2-0 (21-13, 21-13) in the quarterfinals and will play Lithuanians Patrikas Stankevicius/Matas Navickas for a spot in the gold medal match. Youngsters Artúr Hajós/Bence Stréli were the best Hungarian team in the competition. The two players due to travel to the Youth Olympics in October made it to the Round of 12.

Slovenia’s Tjasa Jancar/Tjasa Kotnik easily beat top-seeded Inna and Iryna Makhno of the Ukraine in the quarterfinals (21-12, 21-16). Agata Ceynowa/Martyna Kloda of Poland, the Japanese duo Satono Ishitsubo/Asami Shiba and Swedish sensation Sara Cavretti/Sofia Wahlén progressed to the semis as well. As they played their semis late in the evening under floodlights, the teams from Slovenia and Sweden secured their spot in Sunday’s gold medal match.

The competition on the shores of Lake Balaton will reach its climax on Sunday with the men’s semis and all medal matches.
