Everything is set for another Beach Volleyball spectacle in the heart of Ljubljana
2018 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Ljubljana

Ljubljana, Slovenia, August 2, 2018. This weekend the Slovenian capital is going to host an FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 1-Star/Satellite tournament for the very first time, therefore offering fun and an opportunity not to miss to all Slovenian Beach Volleyball fans.

Every year Ljubljana’s tournament takes another step towards reaching elite Beach Volleyball. “We are happy that our event is getting more and more recognised and that we received as many as 96 applications of teams from all around the world for this year’s edition. A lot of players are praising our tournament as one of the best organised and that means a lot to us and for the development of Slovenian Beach Volleyball as well,” Gregor Humerca, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia, stated at the press conference held in the City Hall of Ljubljana.

Nejc Zemljak, a member of the top seeded team in the men’s tournament appreciates the opportunity to play on home soil once more: “Beach Volleyball players usually spend a lot of time travelling abroad, that’s why I really like to play in Ljubljana, in front of the home crowd. Although the tournament is a 1-Star/Satellite event, I am sure we will be witnessing high-level performances. There are some top-notch teams in the tournament, thus promising us interesting matches. My partner Jan [Pokeršnik] and me still hope that at the end we will be able to capitalise on our experience and gain a medal.”

Sixteen teams per gender will participate in the qualification round at Ludus Sports Park Črnuče and try to move on to the Main Draw. Tjaša Kotnik, a Slovenian national Beach Volleyball champion together with Tjaša Jančar, is already qualified for the Main Draw, but she knows that they need to focus on each of the upcoming matches: “There are still some nice memories of last year’s fourth place, so we are really looking forward to this tournament. There are definitely some excellent teams competing and that will make the competition even more interesting. We will need to prepare for each match and let us hope for the best. Our goal is to claim a medal.”
