Home stars chasing podium finish in Poreč
2018 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Poreč

Poreč, Croatia, July 7, 2018. The competition resumed on Saturday at the 1-Star event in Poreč, where the home fans had something to cheer about. Croatia’s Filip Silic and Josip Pribanic (pictured) claimed their second straight victory in the pool stage to progress straight to the quarterfinals.

They beat Latvia’s rising stars Kristaps Smits and Mihails Samoilovs (17-21, 21-13, 15-10) to confirm that they are a force to reckon with for the medals that will be at stake on Sunday. “It was a very close match where we lost the first set but regrouped to win the next two in a row,” Silic commented. “We enjoy playing here and I hope that we can continue to present our best side.”

In the women’s tournament, Croatia’s last team in the competition, Maja Rosko and Ivana Ovcina, lost badly (1-21, 14-21) to Austria’s Anja Dörfler and Stephanie Wiesmeyr. As a result, no Croatian tandem made it to the quarterfinals, which feature two teams from Austria and one each from Czech Republic, Greece, Ukraine, Poland, Turkey and United States.
