Three more Satellite events added to 2017 Beach Volleyball calendar
News from the CEV

Luxembourg, June 2, 2017. The CEV proudly announce the addition of another three events to the 2017 Beach Volleyball season, thus taking the number of Satellite tournaments to a double-digit figure for the first time in history. Two ‘zonal’ events were upgraded to the status of CEV Satellite tournaments following a decision made by the CEV Board of Administration in late April, whereas a CEV Satellite will be taking place in Romania for the third year running.

The city of Yantarniy in the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad will be hosting a CEV Satellite with an international Beach Volleyball competition returning to this resort on the shores of the Baltic Sea after it played host to the 2009 edition of the U23 European Championship and to a qualifying event of the inaugural CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup in the summer of 2010. The double-gender tournament will take place from August 11 to 13 and feature teams from members of the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) and a number of entries from non-EEVZA countries.

Actually a first such Zonal Satellite will be held in Lithuania’s capital Vilnius from July 21-23, with the city playing a regular role on the international Beach Volleyball map after hosting a number of age-group competitions including the 2011 and 2013 editions of the U18 and U20 Beach Volleyball European Championships, plus several events of the CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup and a CEV Satellite in 2016. The Zonal Satellite tournament in Vilnius will be a women’s-only event.

The third and last CEV sanctioned Satellite event added to the 2017 calendar will take place in Satu Mare, with Romania hosting such a tournament for the third straight year after Satellites were held in Timisoara in 2015 and 2016. The venue will be set up in Satu Mare downtown and run from September 21 to 24, with women’s competition only.
