Everything is set for big Beach Volleyball party in Ashdod
2014-2016 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup - Men & Women

Ashdod, Israel, September 10, 2015. The fourth and last tournament on schedule for Round 4 of the 2014-2016 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup got officially underway on Thursday night in Ashdod with the Technical Meeting. This is the very first time that an Olympic qualifying event is held on Israeli soil and there is a lot of anticipation and excitement around the campaign of the home heroes and heroines who are vying for a spot in the Continental Cup Finals scheduled for next year. The top two teams per gender at the end of the two-day competition will progress to the next and final round, thereby keeping alive their dream of making it to next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Mr Yaniv Noyman, General Manager of the Israel Volleyball Association, addressed the teams and their coaches: “I wish the very best of luck and much success to all teams that are set to compete here in Ashdod for the next couple of days. We feel honoured to host this tournament and all of you here in our country and we very much hope you will be enjoying your stay in Israel.”

These feelings were shared also by CEV Technical Supervisor Pier Paolo Murgioni (ITA) and CEV Referee Delegate José Casanova (POR).

The matches will start on Friday morning at 9:00 am local time and will all be broadcast on LAOLA1.tv In the women’s semis Israel will have a tough task against Poland whose roster includes 2015 European bronze medallists Kinga Kolosinska and Monika Brzostek and last year’s U22 European champions Jagoda Gruszczynska and Karolina Baran. In the second semi-final, Norway will be playing Slovakia whose roster is headlined by Natalia Dubovcova and Dominika Nestarcova who earlier this summer finished fourth at the European Championship in Klagenfurt.
In the men’s semis the home heroes of Israel will be playing Portugal – who have replaced Azerbaijan in the pool following the latter’s withdrawal from the competition – whilst Belgium will take on Estonia.
