Russian girls march on at #EuroBeachVolleyU20!
2015 CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championship
Larnaka, Cyprus, September 4, 2015. The Russian girls are marching on! The 2013 U18 European champion, Nadezhda Makroguzova and Svetlana Kholomina proved too strong in the end for the French tandem consisting of Lézana Placette and Alexia Richard, and qualified for tomorrow’ semi-final against a team from The Netherlands. The Russian pair won easily in the afternoon breeze of Larnaka, 2-0 (21-13, 21-9).
“We gained a lot of confidence after winning the first set. In the second set, we improved our serve and this made it a lot easier for us. Now, we have to get a good night’s sleep and concentrate on the match tomorrow, as this is going to be even more difficult,” said Makroguzova.
“We didn’t have any preferences as to our next opponents. We will stick to our plan, do the same preparation, and with God’s help we will try to achieve our main goal, which is to play in the big final on Saturday. I only wish that the German girl [Leonie Welsch], who got injured in our match in the morning, is feeling better,” said Kholomina observing CEV’s fair play rule.
Russia’s opponents in the last four will be Joy Stubbe and Nika Daalderop from The Netherlands, who had a comfortable afternoon against the Swiss Selina Marolf and Dunja Gerson winning 2-0 (21-9, 21-12), in a game that lasted for only 26 minutes.
The other semi-finalists are Finland’s Ida Sinisalo/Niina Ahtiainen and Viktoryia Shalyeuskaya/Viktoryia Siakretava from Belarus who also recorded 2-0 wins in their respective matchups with Katharina Holzer/Nikolina Maros of Austria and Italy’s Federica Frasca/Gaia Traballi.
