Plotnytskyi/Kovalov live up to their status of pre-favourites in Larnaka
2015 CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championship

Larnaka, Cyprus, September 3, 2015. Two wins in two matches for Ukraine’s Oleh Plotnytskyi and Illia Kovalov in the 2015 CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championship. Their second win came in Thursday’s morning play against the Danes Martin Trans Hansen and Markus Sorensen by 2-0 (21-13, 21-9), in a match lasting exactly 30 minutes.

Ukraine’s big stars and 2014 FIVB U19 World Championship silver medallists, admitted afterwards when speaking to the media, that there are no easy matches in this tournament.  “We have to ‘wear our best playing suits’ in order to achieve the wins. You must not look at the set scores. In both our matches so far we had to dig deep and play our best game,” said Plotnytskyi.

As their recent track record is one of the best coming to this event, including a bronze medal at the elite CEV Biel/Bienne Masters in early August, many people justifiably regard them as medal contenders together with Switzerland, Germany and Russia. “Everybody is entitled to have his opinion, but we must close our ears and not allow what is said to affect our play. Our aim is to win as many matches as we can, and at the end we will see how we faired. But, let’s not forget that we are not playing alone in this event. We have to face worthy opponents who have their own ambitions as well,” said Kovalov.
