The players and all other members of the delegations attending the tournament were warmly welcomed by Mr Jacques Attia, Chairman of the Ligue de Côte d’Azur de Volley-Ball, who stressed the importance of the event being hosted in Montpellier as it is part of the qualification process towards the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The CEV Technical Supervisor, Mrs Josipa Juric from Croatia, reviewed the list of teams participating in the competition, the schedule of the tournament as well as all other regulations. The competition starts on Saturday morning at 9am and the eventual winners will make it straight to the Continental Cup finals scheduled for next year. The second and third-placed teams, on the other hand, will continue their journey in the 4th Round coming up later this summer.

The tournament in Montpellier is joined by some elite teams, including reigning European champions Paolo Nicolai and Daniele Lupo of Italy, France’s rising Beach Volleyball stars Youssef Krou and Edouard Rowlandson – bronze medallists from the FIVB Fuzhou Open a couple of weeks ago – and 2011 European champion Marta Menegatti alongside partner Viktoria Orsi Toth.

The Technical Meeting came to an end with a short address by Competition Director Mr Rodolphe Perriot who provided some more info about the general organisation of the tournament which marks the return of the CEV Continental Cup in Montpellier after the city had already hosted a first round event for the inaugural edition leading up to London 2012 back in 2010.
