Danish players aim at home success as Continental Cup stops in Odense
2014-2016 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup - Men & Women
Odense, Denmark, September 15, 2014. This coming Saturday and Sunday one of four tournaments on schedule for the 2nd round of the 2014-2016 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup will take place in Odense, Denmark. Both the Danish teams and their head coach are confident they can progress to the 3rd stage of the competition which is scheduled for next year.
The head coach of Team Denmark, Peter Lyø, predicts a close affair in women’s Pool B which consists of Denmark, Hungary, Slovenia, Iceland and Luxembourg. Though, he believes that Denmark will take one of the two spots at stake to make the third round of the CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.
“It will definitely be very even, as I do not believe there is one team which is a lot better than the others. Slovenia are the favourites, but besides them the pool is very even. I believe we have a good chance to win against all nations,” he says.
“The goal is definitely to qualify to the next round. To do that, at least one of our teams has to hit its absolute top level. But the other nations will have a tough time, if both our teams have a good day,” Peter Lyø says.
Team Denmark will be represented by Cecilie Køllner Olsen/Eva Mielskov Bang and Helle Søndergård/Line Trans Hansen. They too are optimistic before the Continental Cup starts on home sand in Odense.
“We know Luxembourg from the last round even though we did not face them directly, and we believe we can beat them. We know one of the Icelandic teams very well, but together with Line and Helle, we can beat them. We don’t know anything about Hungary and Slovenia yet,” says Cecilie Køllner Olsen.
“It is hard to say how big our chances of qualifying for the third round are, when we don’t know much about Hungary and Slovenia. But sometimes the small nations win against the big ones, and we believe in our chances,” says Helle Søndergård.
The 2nd Round tournament – Pool A takes place at the Beach Volleyball courts at Dalum Hallen in Odense, Denmark, through this coming September 20-21. The men’s competition will feature teams from Croatia, Hungary, Iceland, Luxembourg and Slovenia which will also try to seize one of the two spots at stake to be promoted to the 3rd Round.
