Couple of major surprises highlight second day of action in Vaduz
2013 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Vaduz

Vaduz, Liechtenstein, August 8, 2013. The CEV Satellite tournament in Vaduz continued on Thursday with the second day of action as temperatures dropped to 20° and some rain poured down in the capital city of Liechtenstein. This did not discourage the local fans from following the matches and a good crowd got together once more there in downtown Vaduz.
The Main Draw of the women’s tournament got started with two surprises as Dutchwomen Daniëlle Remmers and Nienke de Waard easily cruised past second-seeded Hana Skalnikova and Patricia Missottenova of the Czech Republic (21-19, 21-18). Austria’s Sabine Swoboda and Bianca Zass, who had started on Wednesday their campaign by playing the Country Quota, surprisingly edged their compatriots Elisabeth Klopf and Valerie Teufl 2:1 (21-12, 17-21, and 15-13).
Germany’s first-seeded Jana Köhler and Anni Schumacher claimed a couple of comfortable wins as they beat Switzerland’s Geiger/Leeman (21-14, 21-7) and Norway’s Hjortland/Sannarnes (21-12, 21-15) to make it straight to the third round similarly to what did last year’s winners Muriel Graessli and Romana Kayser who started out by routing Spain’s Antequera/Santamaria (21-14, 21-11) before downing Slovenia’s Borko/Sakovic in straight sets too (21-13, 21-14). Other pairs with two wins in as many matches are Poland’s Karolina Suwinska/Agnieszka Woloszyn and Germany’s Teresa Mersmann and Isabel Schneider. The competition will re-start on Friday morning with the losers’ bracket.

In the men’s competition, 8 teams found their way to the Main Draw after completing their run in the qualification round. Switzerland’s Andreas and Roman Sutter – the second-seeded duo of the qualifying round – after by-passing the first series of matches were beaten by Norway’s Bergerud and Kjemperud 18-21, 16-21 and missed out on a spot for the Main Draw. The other teams who got the right to play in the Main Draw are Austria’s Dressler/Kunert and Eglseer/Koraimann, plus Germany’s Dollinger/Schröder, Russia’s Romashkin/Khudyakov, Denmark’s Hoyer/Hoyer and Koren/Olesen, as well as Gordieiev/Iemelianchyk from Ukraine.
