CEV Satellite underway in Vaduz, four teams complete women's Main Draw
2013 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Vaduz

Vaduz, Liechtenstein, August 7, 2013. The CEV Satellite tournament in Vaduz – which is celebrating this year its ninth anniversary – got started on Wednesday with the Country Quota matches starring teams from Germany and Austria. Germany’s Teresa Mersmann/Isabel Schneider bested their compatriots Kim Behrens/Sandra Seyfferth in straight sets (21-18, 21-14) while Austria’s Bianca Zass/Sabine Swoboda and Katharina Almer/Lisa Chukwuma got the right to continue their campaign after edging their countrywomen Susanne Kreuzriegler/Daniela Fankhauser and Eva Fleig/Julia Frühbauer in two sets as well.
The tournament continued with four matches for the qualification round thereby distributing the last spots still available for the Main Draw. Czechs Nakladalova/Galova, Remmers/de Waard (NED), Slovenia’s Borko/Sakovic and Austria’s Swoboda/Zass got past their respective opponents to play in the Main Draw where last year’s winners, Switzerland’s Romana Kayser and Muriel Graessli, will open their quest for another title by taking on Spain’s Berta Antequera/Carlota Santamaria.

The men’s tournament is set to start on Thursday morning at 9 am. Brothers Andreas Martin and Roman Sutter will be the first Swiss duo to compete in Vaduz as they wait for the winner of the game starring Norway’s Bergerud/Kjemperud and Portugal’s Silva Reis/Fabricio. The host country, Liechtenstein, is represented by the duo Manuel Gahr/Maximilian von Deichmann.

Elite Beach Volleyball is returning to Vaduz after last year all records of attendance were broken as more than 10,000 people visited the tournament. A centre court with a capacity of 1,000 has been set up right in the heart of Vaduz where 16 men’s and women’s teams starring on the Main Draw will play for FIVB ranking points and 7,500 € prize money per gender.
