Home hero Sébastien Chevallier set to headline Lausanne Satellite
2013 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Lausanne

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 25, 2013. Lausanne will be hosting this weekend the twenty-fourth edition of a Beach Volleyball Satellite tournament with local heroes Sébastien Chevallier and Mats Kovatsch topping the entry lists and being seen as the major contenders for the gold medal that will be at stake on Sunday. Chevallier and Kovatsch are not simply the first-seeded pair of the tournament but also former players of the local Lausanne University Club (LUC). Chevallier will be playing in Lausanne for the very first time since joining the FIVB World Tour with former partner Sascha Heyer and can’t wait for the tournament to start. “I am excited as a kid to play here” says the player born in Geneva and one of a very few French-speaking members of the Swiss team.
Their main rivals along the way to home gold will be the Czechs Robert Kufa and Jan Hadrava who won the CEV Satellite in Montpellier a couple of weeks ago and were ranked 9th at the FIVB Grand Slam tournament in Corrientes, Argentina, in early May. France’s Andy Cès and Edouard Rowlandson are also hoping to make it to the top four in Lausanne. The winner of the 2011 edition, Germany’s Alexander Walkenhorst (by then he was playing together with Thomas Kaczmarek), is also returning back to Lausanne and will start his campaign with his new partner Lars Flüggen directly from the Main Draw. Flüggen won gold at the 2011 U23 European Championship in Porto and together with Walkenhorst he will be trying to ensure a German team finishes on the podium in Lausanne for a third consecutive year.

The tournament will start on Thursday with the Qualification taking place next to Bellerive swimming pool where some world-class players will be already in action, among others the Danish brothers Soeren and Anders Hoyer and 2011 winner Thomas Kaczmarek starring this time with Max Betzien.
Two of the teams playing in Lausanne – Chevallier/Kovatsch and Kufa/Hadrava – will then travel directly from Switzerland to Stare Jablonki, Poland, where the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship is set to get started on July 1.

The organizers of the CEV Satellite presented by Coop are delighted to confirm that – as usual – an amateur tournament will take place on Saturday at Bellerive and will be joined by some 300 Beach Volleyball enthusiasts.
